MECC.co Project Begins

Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.) in coordination with a number of former Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC) staff have begun the MECC.co Project. The project is an effort to gather and make available all of the former MECC retro library software and tools for teachers of this generation to use.

The project includes over over 300 software titles, manuals, floppy disks and other related materials that are necessary to fully utilize the MECC software. This includes all of the Home titles, the Educational titles, and other items of interest to teachers. The project is being led by A.P.P.L.E.’s own Bill Martens to date, includes over 400 floppies along with approximately eighty manuals.

Currently, there are well over 1200 schools around the globe that continue to use the MECC software from the Apple II and early Macintosh generations and we aim to include as close to all of the original library as possible. Being as some time has passed since the office closure in 1999, in some cases, the gathering of the materials is proving difficult but we have to date, had a slew of contributions to the project, encouraging us to implement it fully. This includes emulated environments along with the program materials being available for parents, teachers, and students alike.

Stay tuned as we bring back the Troggle to classrooms far and wide!
