School Year 2026-2027 Update

While it may be a bit early yet for the official update for the School Year 2026-2027, we figured it was a good time to let everyone know about the new changes we are in the process of implementing in time for the summer computing events around the U.S. We finally have an in page plugin which allows us to run the legacy MECC titles for the Apple II, II+, IIe, IIc and IIgs computers in a browser page.

This fantastic new inline emulation system comes to us from the users group that has supported this effort from day one, Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange. Developed by Bill Martens, the KEGS-JS Apple II GS emulator provides a stable background for emulation of the MECC titles in a format that is user friendly.

Originally, the MECC.co site was planned to have all the manuals and software implemented some 10 years ago, however, the emulator we were using at the time was phased out in 2017 due to the browser companies all getting together and eliminating support for the type of plugin we were using at the time. Now we no longer need worry about that thanks to the new emulator being 100% written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

These changes allow us to not only support the game in browser giving teachers and students around the globe full access to these titles, but it also allows us to uniformly include the manuals as well. As this project is just starting the updates, it will be sometime around the start of the new school year before we have the project completed. Stay Tuned for more on this!
