Introduction

Lunar Greenhouse is a discovery-learning simulation that capitalizes on the natural curiosity of students and encourages them to use their curiosity while developing appropriate scientific processes and learning scientific content.

Lunar Greenhouse is a part of MECC’ s Science Inquiry Collection. Like all the packages in this collection, Lunar Greenhouse features a strong process orientation while presenting material that is firmly anchored in the elementary and junior high school science curriculum.

In Lunar Greenhouse, students are challenged to raise a variety of vegetable crops to meet specific harvest sizes in a controlled environment on the moon. When setting up the experiment, students adjust variables such as hours of light, environmental temperature, amount of water, and amount of plant food, keeping in mind the final goal (yield or harvest size and days to harvest) they are to meet.

Science concepts addressed by or related to Lunar Greenhouse include:
