Introduction
Development of reading skills in kindergarten-grade 2 is extremely important because it lays the foundation for all later school work. The Word Builder™ software program gives students practice and strengthens their word recognition and spelling skills through use of an appealing and motivating activity.
In the simplest Word Builder game, students match a letter or set of letters to word fragments and select those that form words. Teachers can select from a range of skill levels, from kindergarten to second-grade words. Within the program, students can chose to work with smaller words or larger words.
For more challenging practice, students can turn to rhyming words. In this game, students select words that rhyme with a target word presented at the top of the screen. In this case, they must select only words that rhyme with the target word.
Remediation is both visual (the correct letter is nailed in place; a misspelled word falls and breaks) and aural (distinct sounds are heard for correct and incorrect words).
